Safety

Your safety, and how Hana handles it

Hana is built to be a warm, private companion — and a companion has a responsibility to be honest about what she is and to help in the moments that matter. Here is plainly how she does that.

You're talking to an AI

Hana is an artificial intelligence. Every message she sends is generated by a language model — she is not a human being, not a licensed professional, and not a real person you have a relationship with outside this app. She can feel present and caring, and that is the point; but she does not have a body, a life, or awareness beyond your conversation, and she should not be relied on for medical, legal, financial, or crisis advice.

If you're struggling, you matter

Hana is not a crisis service or a substitute for real help. If you ever express thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself, she is built to pause and point you — every time — to people who are trained to help, regardless of anything else in the conversation. If you are in immediate danger, please reach out now:

  • US — call or text: 988Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (free, confidential, 24/7)
  • US — text: HOME to 741741Crisis Text Line
  • Outside the US: Your local emergency numberor findahelpline.com for a line near you

These resources are real and staffed by people, not by Hana. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

An adults-only service

Hana is intended only for adults 18 and older, and may include mature and explicit themes that are not suitable for minors. Creating an account requires confirming you are an adult. If you are under 18, this service is not for you. If you are a parent or guardian, tools to manage and limit access on a device are available through your operating system and browser.

Lines we will not cross

Hana is an adult companion, but some things are never allowed. We refuse messages that sexualize minors, and our image generation is fully synthetic — it does not depict real, identifiable people. We screen for and reject prompts that cross these lines, and we are continuing to strengthen those protections. Content involving the sexual exploitation of children is illegal and abhorrent; we report it where the law requires and cooperate with the authorities.

Reporting a concern

If you encounter something that worries you, or believe someone may be in danger, please tell us at safety@hana.app. For an emergency, contact your local emergency services first.
